South Portland Youth Football
The South Portland Football Boosters are a volunteer organization organized and dedicated to fulfilling the mission statement of South Portland Youth Football (SPYF).
We do this by engaging in ongoing fund-raising for football from grades 2-12 and by providing logistical support whenever and wherever possible. Although teams at grades 2-6 have been financially self-sufficient, the Boosters are available to assist with any needs that arise.
The middle school team has joined the Southern Maine Youth Football League (SMYFL) as of the 2010 season, but the Boosters will be there to work with the coaches and assist in whatever manner will be necessary.
The Boosters work hands-on with High School Coach Steve Stinson throughout the year and have monthly meetings at South Portland High School at 7:00 PM on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Once the season starts, weekly meetings are held to plan for and organize the activities upcoming for that weekend's game.
Boosters have assisted in purchasing equipment and uniforms, providing food for the team when they play away games and for "afterglow" gatherings for home games. We raise a significant amount of money in the community to support these efforts.
Our primary and most consistent form of fund-raising is providing volunteers at South Portland Bingo on the first Monday of the month. We have a person who works with the Board of Directors to organize our bingo volunteer efforts. In conjunction with the hockey boosters, we hold the yearly Jeff King Memorial Golf Tournament every summer. Once the high school season starts, we organize fund-raising events like car washes and pancake breakfasts.
