About the Middle School Junior Riots

In the past, Mahoney Middle School and Memorial

Middle School have fielded separate football

programs, each with their own great memories.

Many of the great South Portland High School

football players of the past started their playing

careers in the colors of either Mahoney or

Memorial. Many South Portland residents can

relate great memories about the annual

Mahoney/Memorial game.

Beginning the 2010 football season, a new era of South Portland Middle School Junior Riots football was ushered in with 7th and 8th graders from throughout the city joining to form a single team. This team now serves as the feeder program for the South Portland High School football program.

The Middle School Junior Riots compete in the Southern Maine Youth Football League (SMYFL).
